Nitrile rubber can tolerate short term dry running of the sealing lip. The operating temperature range without failure of nitrile rubber is 40 to +100 C. You'll flip over the added countertop!
Good product, seems well made. Installation was simple enough. It gives us a little extra counter space when needed. The only issue is it blocks the entry a little when flipped up in our RV. Just look before you step in.

Works great for our RV.
