The sole purpose of the tang is to temporarily locate the lock, retainer and spring relative to the valve until the taper of the retainer can nest around the outside surface of the lock.

My dog generally loves these. They seem to be a good quality ingredients. I think he likes the taste, but do know that they have a very smoky smell. I don’t know how fresh jerky can be, but they do seem like a very good value for the money. Another brand sells dog jerky as human quality. And my dog also likes that. The other brand is much softer, and this brand, wag, is a bit harder. So perhaps, if you have an older dog or a dog with teeth issues, this might not be the best choice.
