It was originally a container for typewriter ribbon but after the ribbon is used it becomes an ashtray. You are supposed to push through (break out) the center circle to create a hole for the ashes to fall into. The top can be unscrewed to clean it. The lid has instructions in German, English and French.

I love the Coola brand, and this product does not disappoint. The scent is tropical and not fake-smelling, and I love that the coverage is a wide, fine mist.
