To sharpen a blade simply pop it onto the little studs inside close it and pull the string back and forth a few times. This rubs the blade against the soap stones inside. There are no markings to indicate if this is wartime or postwar.

I read the reviews but took a chance that the one I received would not smell mildewed. Oh my!! It stinks to high heaven!!! And it is too small for my wrist…another chance I took. Instead of returning it, I’m going to try and replicate it using the watch and dangles with ribbon and cords. It was wrapped very tightly in bubble wrap. Perhaps the leather would not have mildewed if it had been able to breathe. Boy! Does it stink!!!!!
