For many years (until about 1981) there was a box of very live dynamite under one of the bunks, presumably to give any resident silly enough to light a really big fire in the hearth, a night to remember! The Hut is accessed via a moderate walk setting out from Mt Selwyn

Great information density! I though they did a good job of covering the basics to a higher resolution than I expected. I bought this for my 10 year old nephew, it's a bit out of his reach as far as information density- the pictures help a great deal but it is definitely a book that will require explanation for you ger children. I don't think it's ever too early to have exposure to this science.
