I grew up in a time where there were very few LBGTQ books and I felt very much an anomaly. I heard great things about this book and wanted to read it. I found the book to be written super simply and not adding much to the conversation. I am glad it exists but it was super simplistic and it really doesn’t add much to the conversations around transitioning. It might be a great book for a kid just starting to figure out who they are. I left this book in a free library in a public space in hopes it gets read by someone who needs the message.

Lewis is a really funny person and I love how he discussing the way transitioning can affect multiple people, like parents, friends, and teachers. I also feel very related to by this book despite not having the same experience he did. It’s a testament to his amazing writing that he can so well encapsulate the Transgender Experience, whilst still telling a personal story. Highly recommend.

I discovered Lewis through TikTok and even showed a few of his videos to my mom. While I’m a bit younger than Lewis, my mom and I laughed at his videos because they reminded us of my emo teen self. While our journeys in life are hardly similar, and I still identify with my biological sex, I absolutely loved this book and told my therapist friend about it.
